How to host your own virtual film screening

Host Your Own Virtual Movie Night in 5 Steps!

1. PLAN YOUR EVENT

  • Choose whether the event will be live or on-demand.

  • Pick a date & time. Consider holidays and other events. Check analytics to see when your community is online or most likely to attend.

  • Choose where you want to host - where will the content be watched? Facebook Groups, Facebook Live and Zoom are all great options.

  • You can stream on Facebook Live via OBS Software. Here's how. You can also charge admission to watch a livestream when broadcasting via a Facebook Page.

  • Will access to the film screening watch party be gated or free?

2. PURCHASE A SCREENING KIT

  • Purchase a Screening License Kit based on the estimated size of your audience, and the format needed.

  • For virtual and socially-distanced + outside + safe events, purchase based on your best guess and upgrade later if needed. If you’d like to do a virtual Q&A with a filmmaker, email us about a date and time, and purchase that as well.

  • The Kits include a Download of the Film File, a Screening + Q&A Guide, as well as marketing and promotional materials to promote your event.

3. PROMOTE YOUR EVENT

  • How will you promote the event? (Newsletter + Facebook Events & Pages)

  • Do you plan to work with another person, partner or company?

  • Consider inviting an inspiring woman or noteworthy speaker from your community.

  • Use social media! Create a Facebook event. Create an event countdown in Instagram Stories. Consider listing your event on sites like Eventbrite and in other places your audience will come across them. Use a custom #EventHashtag!

  • E-mail us and we'd be happy to share your event information on TGP's social media!

4. TEST YOUR TECH

  • Run through your stream or screening set up prior to the event.

  • Make sure your computer or device is plugged in while hosting.

  • Coordinate with any partners or event collaborators to run through their tech.

5. HAVE FUN + ENJOY THE FILM!

  • Engage with your audience during the film in the chat or comments.

  • Consider hosting a moderated Q&A after the film. Ask your audience to submit questions in the chat or comment section! You can also invite the filmmaker to speak at your event.

  • Stay in touch with your viewers! Form friendships and build community. Create a group or exchange contact info for future inspiring events. #TheGoddessProject
